Resident Spotlight: Harry and Nellie Roberts

Harry and Nellie Roberts gravestone is one of the most memorable in this cemetery. Harry was born in 1886 and Nellie in 1888. They died on August 23rd and 24th of 1892 from diphtheria. A short article about them that was written by their aunt was included in the October 20, 1892 Marietta Journal.

The article said:

Of little Harry and Nellie Roberts who departed this life on the morning of the twenty-third and fourth of August, 1892 aged four and six years. They were the only children of Charlie and Emma Roberts, bright and promising, till diphtheria laid its fatal hand upon them and in a few days they were gone, sad thought, to come no more; but sweet thought, you will meet them on the other shore, where they are waiting and watching for you.

I know you miss the patter of their little feet, the music of their voices, you are lost for the cares that was so sweet of your darling Boy and Girl, and, oh, the lonely days and nights you will spend in the desolate home from which your darlings went, but think, dear mamma and papa, of the little faces waiting for you on the other shore, and the two little forms you laid to rest in the same casket with their little hands in each others in the cemetery at Kennesaw, there to wait the resurrection morn, then you will be reunited to part no more.

And then you will learn to count the gain where once you counted along the loss, and though the bitter sweet, you will find the blessing within the cross.
