On May 26, 1930, the War Department implemented regulations for Confederate headstones that also authorized the inscription of the Confederate Cross of Honor in a small circle on the front face of the stone.
This cemetery marker design features the traditional Civil War Confederate or Southern Cross of Honor. This military decoration was reserved for officers and privates to recognize their valor in the armed forces of the Confederate Army and to pay tribute to their loyalty, and honorable service to the South in its time of need.
